Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you

-James 4:8 NKJV

The Lord is near to all who call upon Him,

To all who call upon Him in truth.

-Psalm 145:18

Sometimes we ask the question: How can someone like me “draw near” to an all powerful, all knowing, almighty God?  I know me.  Why in the world would God chose to be close to me?   I’m not sure I even belong in His presence.  I’m unworthy. I have a past. I've struggled with addiction.  I’ve been divorced. I’ve been bankrupt.  (Insert any reason here)

Psalm 145:18 says: The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth.  And the fact is this: God already knows it all.  God knows everything about us and loves us anyway. He knows all our stumbles our triumphs, our good, our bad, and our ugly. He sent His son Jesus to die on the cross to pay for our sins.  The moment we accept Jesus as the Lord and savior of our lives, we have direct access to the Father, and more than anything our Heavenly Father wants us to spend time with Him in prayer getting closer.

Almighty God, reveal anything in our lives that might be keeping us from wanting to come into your presence.  We know more than anything,  you long to be in a relationship with us.  Thank you for loving us in spite of our mistakes, and during this season of prayer and fasting, let your loving kindness to lead us closer and closer to you.
